The four Cs, in the order that matters
Cut comes first. It decides how light travels through the stone and back out, and it is the one factor that cannot be compensated for later. Colour comes next: a stone slightly below the top grade is hard to tell apart once it is set, especially in yellow gold. Clarity describes the inclusions, and most of them stop being visible to the eye well before the grade runs out. Carat is weight, not width, so two stones of the same carat can look quite different on the finger depending on how they were cut.
A lab grown diamond has the same chemical structure and the same behaviour in light as a mined one, and costs less at the same size. For most budgets that difference buys either a larger stone or a cleaner one.
Setting and metal
Claws hold the stone high and let light in from the side, which is what makes a solitaire sparkle. A bezel wraps the girdle in metal and is the steadier choice for daily wear. White gold and platinum keep a white diamond looking bright, while yellow gold gives it a warmer tone.
Made to order
Every ring is made to order in a German goldsmith's workshop and the stones are set by hand. The engraving on the inside is free, delivery is free, and a certificate for the stone comes with the order.
